Located in the village center of Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard, this infill development introduces a series of compact duplex homes designed to integrate into the walkable, residential fabric of the neighborhood. Developed in collaboration with a local partner, the project provides a mix of affordable and market-rate housing at a higher density, while remaining sensitive to the surrounding context.
Set on a flag lot nestled behind existing single-family homes, the site’s design centers on a mews-style layout—efficient two-bedroom duplexes arranged around a shared central drive. This site strategy fosters a sense of community and creates a modest, pedestrian-friendly scale, aligning with the character of the adjacent neighborhood.
The architecture takes cues from local forms and materials to ensure the new homes integrate quietly into their setting. By focusing on compact footprints, efficient layouts, and respectful massing, the project offers a thoughtful model for gentle density in one of the island’s most historic and desirable village areas.
