Located in a new loft building in downtown New York City, the Nychay Loft is an urban enclave designed for a single young professional. It addresses the classic duality of open loft vs. partitioned intimacy with the contrast between the sophistication of a contemporary high end residential project and the primitiveness of the original industrial building in the historic neighborhood of Soho. On one edge, a dense complex box contains the kitchen, baths, mechanical and secondary spaces. On the other edge, a continuous open space features built in and free standing furniture which modulate the loft, defining particular zones of use while maintaining a coherent place for cooking, dining, living, and working.
